I Love You Pocketletter

This week I’d like to share a pocket letter I made for the Vera Lane Studio Design Team. Pocket letters got me back into papercrafting after a very long time away, I truly love making art with paper, paints and all kinds of mixed media stuffs. I have uploaded a video on my YouTube channel showing my entire process. The video can be found right here.

Making Your Own Handcarved Stamp

This week I wanted to try something new to me… I carved my own stamp 🙂 I used the new release digistamp set from Vera Lane Studio, The Raccoon Family. Isn’t the lil raccoon adorable? The whole family would go well with the Woodland Props set or the Foxes!

Lets get started! You will need a few items to get started making your own handcarved stamp.

  • Lino cut tool
  • speedy carve carving blank
  • pencil
  • scrap paper
  • exacto knife
img_2359
Draw your image on the scrap paper.

Place your image face down on your carving block and burnish with the end of Lino tool to transfer your image.

Grab your Lino tool and place the smallest of the gougers on the tool. Now the fun part!

Slowly carve the negative space out with the gouger.
Continue to carve out the negative space (the part we don’t want to show in the stamp)
Place the #3 gouger in the tool to remove more of the negative space. Trim off excess around the edges with the exacto knife.
Finished! Now test out your new stamp
Tested & removed more of the middle of stamp. Test again and YES!! Now to use it in your art!
Grab your paints and markers and make magic!
Image on left I used Copic Markers & the right I used Prima Watercolors.
I had so much fun making my own stamp! I will definitely be making more. I would love to see how you use the VLS raccoon stamp set!

VLS Woodlands ATC

f8d35382-322e-4b4e-bb53-fd67ccbd1722This week I decided to make a grungy themed ATC. Lots of stuff was used to make the background. Definitely a mixed media piece for sure. I had recorded about 40 minutes of video to go with this post but ran into editing issues. I ended making a short one minute video featuring the highlights of the process I used to make the atc. Check it out on my YouTube channel here

The Woodlands props from Vera Lane Studio have so many lil pieces that can be mixed and match with several of VLS digistamps. You can check them out here. The combinations are endless!

I started with a scrap piece of watercolor paper and scraped Ranger opaque matte texture paste through a stencil. Next up I used the Prima Watercolor Tropical palette. After the watercolors I used Inka Gold in orange and green. I glued (used matte gel medium) scraps, from my recent batik rag quilt, to the background. I felt that the background was a bit bright so I added some gesso to the fabric pieces. After the gesso dried I used distress inks (vintage photo, forest moss and ground espresso) on the atc. The background is finished! All that was left was to add the birds, stump and mushrooms. I colored them with Tim Holtz distress ink pens then cut, glued and traced around each one with a black watercolor pen.  A waterbrush was used to activate the pen and give the card a grungy feel. To finish the card I added white gel pen highlights. Wink of Stella in clear and a quote from Tim Holtz Small Talk.

Would love to hear what you think. Hope you enjoy!

How to Paint Transparent Balloons

Today I want to share how I make the balloons I paint look transparent. I used the Vera Lane Studio digistamp set Cheers. You can get it here.  I print the digistamps with a Canon printer on Canson watercolor paper that I trim down to 8 ½ x 11 inches.

The supplies I used are:

  • Tim Holtz distress inks
  • Pentel waterbrush
  • Sakura Gelli Roll pen
  • Canson Watercolor Paper
  • heat gun (because I’m impatient ?)

You can watch the time lapse video of my process here on my YouTube channel.

Be sure to check Instagram for all my latest projects.

Hope you enjoy!
